Live Daily Review for Indian Wells California, March 17, 2008.
To start off todays post let me just say that the weather change between yesterday and today, was very similar to the results that occur on the mens tour, anything can happen on any given day. Temperatures in the high 70’s to low 80’s proved to be a crowd pleaser and I have the tan lines to prove it! Onto the days action, where James Blake started off the proceedings on center court with a 6-3 6-4 win over veteran Carlos Moya. Carlos had chances as he was up a break in each set, but his lack of focus got the better of him, and Blake dropped the hammer with a backhand winner on match point. The second match of the day saw Rafa Nadal taking on youngster Donald Young. Nadal breezed through the match 6-1 6-3, but Young gave Nadal some concerns in the 2nd set; with numerous break point chances and great cross court backhands. If Donald can clean up his error count on the forehand side, this south paw could start to think about achieving some of the same results that his successor had today. Some great side court action as well on day 5, with Jo-Wilfred Tsonga taking down fellow Frenchman Paul-Henri Mathieu in straights. The crowd clearly supporting the Aussie Open finalist, as he provided big forehands along with his charisma throughout the contest. Constant fan interaction will certainly gain Tsonga more fan fair throughout the world. I was impressed with his focus during the match, and his ability to entertain.
As I write this post, Marcos Baghdatis and Stanislas Wawrinka are battling out a decisive 3 set, with Marcus receiving great fan support. I will be headed to center court in a bit were Novak Djokovic and Philipp Kohlschreibber will be doing battle shortly. I anticipate a great battle as I really enjoy the young Germans game, his strokes are very explosive and great for young players to watch. I tried a few more restaurants on site today and my favorite food has shifted slightly from yesterdays Mexican meal, to the Italian booth and the great pasta that they provide.Be sure to check back tomorrow as we will have more coverage and pics as well a live video of many matches. Please click on the pictures to enlarge them. TheATPblog is proud to bring you live coverage from Indian Wells as we are dedicated to bringing our fans the best coverage possible. This is Nima signing off from a great Monday in the desert, and hoping for a fantastic Tuesday in Palm Springs.
